To most of us watching televisions or reading newspapers seldom get news that there is a work accident at a certain place. Actually it can be more than one accidents happening in the word every week. Every accident, of course, causes the fall of victims. Estimating the exact number of the victims is difficult but every year thousands of people in the world are wounded or bruised when they are at work.
Every accident, of course, causes hardship to the victim and his family. Some of accidents are fatal and some of them are serious. Fatal accidents are accidents resulting in death. Serious accidents are accidents making people badly bruised. Both fatal and serious accidents usually occur because the workers are careless in their work or work whithout obeying the safety rules.
The greatest number of these accidents is generally in factories. However, construction or building work is more dangerous. For every 100000 construction workers, 18 die every year in accident at work. For the same number of factory workers, there are four deaths per year. Most of the accidents often take place during lifting and handling of materials. Some of them are caused by machinery and falls are another main cause. To prevent these acidents, the workers are instructed to follow the safety rules and provide themselves with special equipment and clothing.
Tools and machines can be dangerous if we don’t use them properly. An accident may occur to us if we are careless in our work. Our heads, eyes, feet and hands may injured if we do not protect ourselves with safety equipment. That’s the reason why safety equipment is absolutely needed in every industrial workplace.
